Turbo Is Not About Speed, It's About Dream (Aug 2013)

turbo animationTurbo, DreamWorks Animation's latest 3D animation is not about speed, it is a movie about dream. We all have dreams (at least at some point of our life, we did ever have dreams). Some dreams might seem too hard to achieve or near impossible (initially) but Turbo is here to convince us that there is always POSSIBILITY as long as we keep our DREAM alive!

Directed by David Soren (his previous animation fame are Madagascar : Escape 2 Africa [2008] and Shark Tale [2004]) and voiced by Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti and Michael Pena. This feel-good animation set to warm your heart slowly but surely (from the speed of snail to the speed of turbo).

Synopsis of Turbo (source: imdb.com):

All his life, Theo the garden snail has lived a slow lane life with dreams of speed at the Indy 500. Suddenly, a freak mishap gives him the ability to move at superspeed, which puts Theo and his brother at a failing strip mall. They are discovered by Tito, a goofy fast food worker, and his crew of racing snails, and a wild idea is born for Theo to race with his heroes in Indianapolis. Now, this gang of misfits are travelling to that city to dare pursue the impossible dream, which will require all of Theo's speed as Turbo to have any shot at achieving.

Riddick - The Cool Trailer And Even Cooler Motion Comic Prequel (Sep 2013)

riddick imaxRiddick, the third instalment of The Chronicles Of Riddick franchise is getting brighter. Most of the scene in the newly released trailer seems to be in the bright (as compared to the very first instalment which mostly in a darker environment, that's why it is called Pitch Black [2000] then). Having said that, the trailer do looks awesome and massive special effect is expected.
Here come another marketing surprise! Recently, IGN released a fresh motion comic (5.5 minutes) which bridge the gap between the earlier instalment (Chronicles Of Riddick [2004]) and this film. It looks cool too! So, if you like comic and movie, you have the best of both worlds.
Riddick will be released on 6th Sep 2013 and it will be in IMAX too!

Short synopsis of the film:

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

Now, enjoy the RIDDICK movie resources that I've collated for you.

Weekly Box Office Movies in US (Ending 2013/07/28)

Here are the TOP 5 Movies from US for the week ending 28th Jul 2013 (Sun).

As expected, last week's only new release, The Wolverine, tops the chart over the weekend. However, this highly anticipated sequel opened with a lower than expected figure of $55 millions. (Personal note: I've watched the movie in 2D and can fully understand why there is no beast size success as there is simply LACK OF SURPRISE!).

The Conjuring is holding well at second place with $22.1 millions. It seems that a sequel or even a trilogy of this surprise horror hit is unavoidable.

Now, enjoy the chart...

47 Ronin - This Very First Trailer Really Exceed My Expectation (Dec 2013)

47 ronin47 Ronin, the second martial art project by Keanu Reeves (after his debutant directorship in Man Of Tai Chi) is creating a buzz on the web with its initial full-length trailer. After watching the trailer, I must say that it has exceeded my initial expectation (when I first saw the four character posters).

47 Ronin is not a plain period movie with ancient Japan setting,
it has an element of fantasy and mythology in it. Oh, by the way, the Japanese actress (in one of the character poster shown below) is Rinko Kikuchi, the lady co-pilot of Jaeger in Pacific Rim named Mako Mori.

Short synopsis of 47 Ronin (source: Rotten Tomatoes):

From ancient Japan's most enduring tale, the epic 3D fantasy-adventure 47 Ronin is born. Keanu Reeves leads the cast as Kai, an outcast who joins Oishi (Hiroyuki Sanada), the leader of 47 outcast samurai. Together they seek vengeance upon the treacherous overlord who killed their master and banished their kind. To restore honor to their homeland, the warriors embark upon a quest that challenges them with a series of trials that would destroy ordinary warriors. 47 Ronin is helmed by visionary director Carl Erik Rinsch (The Gift). Inspired by styles as diverse as Miyazaki and Hokusai, Rinsch will bring to life the stunning landscapes and enormous battles that will display the timeless Ronin story to global audiences in a way that's never been seen before.

47 Ronin will be in cinemas on 25th Dec 2013. Yup, on Christmas Day!

Now, enjoy the awesomeness!

Gravity - The Intense And Mind Blowing Teaser Trailers (Oct 2013)

gravity 3d movie sandra bullockThe upcoming sci-fi, Gravity looks like going to be an intense and entertaining ride. With the huge casts like George Clooney and Sandra Bullock (directed by Alfonso Cuarón), coupled with the stunning galactic visuals and calamity, it looks set to be a blockbuster well worth the 3D (or even IMAX 3D) ticket price.

Short synopsis of Gravity (source: Rotten Tomatoes):

Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone-tethered to nothing but each other and spiralling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth...and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Recently, Warner Bros released a few teaser trailers of Gravity which managed to awe me to the max. I am pretty sure that you will be holding your breath while watching it.

Gravity will be released on 4th October 2013.

Enjoy!

Elysium - The New Poster And Featurettes (Aug 2013)

elysiumElysium, the upcoming Sci-fi feautring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster has just been released with a new poster and the featurettes. As per my earlier post, the storyline and plot of Elysium is seems so familiar i.e. been there, done that! Having said that, I am still looking forward to it since I am a sci-fi fan.

Short synopsis of Elysium:

In the year 2154, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined planet. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the crime and poverty that is now rampant throughout the land.

The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium's Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.

Elysium will be released in IMAX 3D on 9th Aug 2013. Keep reading to view the new poster and clips.

The Wolverine - My Original Infographic (Jul 2013)

the wolverine, movie in a pic infographicAfter created the beast size post on The Wolverine a week plus ago, I've decided to try my hand again (second time) to design an Infographic on the movie theme. This time round, I've picked The Wolverine as this is the most anticipated sequel at the moment. For my very first infographic on the movie theme, click Oz The Great And Powerful.
As per my very first one, I designed this infographic by using the Powerpoint Software. Also, I've decided to give it a title. After much thought, here comes my Infographic series - Movie In A Pic. What do you think about the name? As my Infographic venture is still in its infancy, any input/comment are welcome as I intended to make it as a regular feature in the future.
Before proceed further, I would like to ask you for a favour i.e. to leave me a note or two on your view (positive or negative) about this Infographic. Also, if you have any idea or movie that would like me to create as an Infographic, please feel free to leave the details in the comment section. Steady?
Now, hope you enjoy my second infographic which is hot from the oven.

Weekly Box Office Movies in US (Ending 2013/07/21)

the conjuringHere are the TOP 5 Movies from US for the week ending 21st Jul 2013 (Sun).

It seems that US audience just can't get enough of horror movie. After the surprise hit of the low budget horror movie, The Purge a few weeks ago, The Conjuring took over and become the new big thing in the horror movie scene. With its minion size of budget ($13 millions), the Kaiju size of opening weekend ($41.5) is three-folds of its investment. I am pretty sure that Warner Brothers is laughing their way to the bank now!

The other new release, Turbo (3D animation) performed decently at third place with $21.5 millions. However, same thing cannot be said for the surprise flops of the week, Red 2 (Bruce Willis) and R.I.P.D (Rest In Peace Department). Red 2 managed to open at the fifth place with $18.5 millions while R.I.P.D merely earned $12.8 millions on its opening weekend and not even at the top 5 of the chart.

Inferno 3D (逃出生天) [Oct 2013]

Inferno 3D (逃出生天) First, not to confuse the movie that I am about to share with the latest novel from Dan Brown which bearing the same title (Inferno). By the way, talking about the Dan Brown's version, the movie project has been confirmed and Tom Hanks will reprise the role of Robert Langdon.

Now, let's get back to the Asian version of Inferno that I am sharing today. As you might be aware, 3D movies from Asia is hard to come by (I guess mainly due to the budget constraint), thus, when I first chanced upon this upcoming 3D movie from Hong Kong, I can't hold my excitement as it seems that we are in for a real 3D treat!

Inferno 3D (逃出生天) is directed by Pang brothers (whom brought us the horror movies like The Eye and Bangkok Dangerous). It is a movie about the heroism of firefighters. Starring Louis Khoo (古天乐), Sean Lau (刘青云) and Lee Sinje (李心洁).

Following are the official synopsis in English and Chinese:

On the hottest day in 50 years, in the density packed urban centre, a serious fire incident happened to a busy commercial tower because of an unexpected phenomenon known as “flashover”. As the fire burned their conscience to the ground, those who lacked passion in their life were about to meet a gaggle of firefighters with an indestructible enthusiasm to save lives.

Inferno 3D will be released on 3rd Oct 2013 in Asia. Keep reading to check out the trailer, featurette and movie posters/stills.

Seventh Son - The First Trailer Looks Promising!

seventh son, jeff bridges
Jeff Bridges seems like in 3D movies everywhere nowadays, besides the upcoming R.I.P.D (Rest In Peace Department), he will be in next year's fantasy, Seventh Son

Seventh Son is based on fantasy novel series "The Wardstone Chronicles" and it is set to be released on 17th January 2014 (in 3D). Besides Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore and Ben Barnes are involved in the project as well. Short synopsis of the movie (source: rottentomatoes.com):

In a time long past, an evil is about to be unleashed that will reignite the war between the forces of the supernatural and humankind once more. Master Gregory (Jeff Bridges) is a knight who had imprisoned the malevolently powerful witch, Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore), centuries ago. But now she has escaped and is seeking vengeance. Summoning her followers of every incarnation, Mother Malkin is preparing to unleash her terrible wrath on an unsuspecting world. Only one thing stands in her way: Master Gregory. In a deadly reunion, Gregory comes face to face with the evil he always feared would someday return. He has only until the next full moon to do what usually takes years: train his new apprentice, Tom Ward (Ben Barnes) to fight a dark magic unlike any other. Man's only hope lies in the seventh son of a seventh son

Recently, Warner Brothers has just released the very first full-length trailer of Seventh Son. To my surprise, it does looks promising, hopefully the actual movie is as good as the trailer.

Now, enjoy the trailer below...

The Wolverine - The Beast Size Movie Trailers, Posters And Many More

the wolverine movie poster
The Wolverine
After Pacific Rim (which is opening this week), the next big budget 3D extravaganza that I am totally looking forward to is The Wolverine, sequel (or maybe reboot) of the 2009's X-men Origin : Wolverine. Once again, Hugh Jackman reprises the titular role and the this time round it is closer to home (for me, since I am an Asian) as most part of the movie seems to be happening in Japan (at least from the trailer).

Short synopsis of The Wolverine (source: GeekTyrant):

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

Now, enjoy the beast size of The Wolverine details in the form of trailers, posters, character posters and featurettes.

SPECIAL NOTE : The verdict is out and it is official that Cowboy is of no match to the super cute minions. Last weekend, Despicable Me 2 (representing the minions) stormed the US Box office with a whopping $83.5 millions while the cowboy representative, The Lone Ranger (Johnny Depp) claimed the second spot with mere $29.4 millions. During the same period, the smaller budget sleeper hit, The Heat, doing awesomely at third place with $25 millions.

Next week, all eyes are on the upcoming 200+ tonnes of awesomeness, The Pacific Rim! My guess is that it will be a monstrous size of opening (in the range of $150 to $160 millions range on its first week)

Despicable Me 2 - The Only Infographic You Need On Who's Who Of The Minions

despicable me 2, minionsI think we can never have enough of the minions (yes, I am referring to the super-cute little yellow creatures from the "Despicable Me" and "Despicable Me 2"). However, many of you might be having a huge challenge in identifying who's who of the key characters of the minions.

Overall, there are about 10 key minions in the movie and some of them are more popular (aka cuter) than the others. With the immerse popularity of the movies (Last week, Despicable Me 2 opened with a whopping $142.1 millions!), minions are everywhere. Courtesy of Collectibly, they have created a cool and detailed infographic to tell them apart. With the help of this infographic, I am sure you can shout out their name(s) whenver you see them.
