gravity
Gravity will be coming fast and furious next week, I am pretty sure most of you are intrigued by the teasers, trailers so far and in awe of what you've seen (me too).

Recently, Warner Bros released yet another featurrete focus on the IMAX technology as well as some feedback from the real NASA astronaut. As per the director, Alfonso Cuaron, it will not be a futuristic sci-fi but rather a sci-fi that is as close as the present time.

Gravity will be released in IMAX and IMAX 3D on 4th Oct 2013. Before watching the latest featurrete, check out the short synopsis below:

A medical engineer and an astronaut work together to survive after an accident leaves them adrift in space.

So far, all the stuff released are great stuff and look like an epic to me and it could be better than the first one (maybe it is the spill-over effect from the success of The Avengers).

Before checking out the latest media release, you may want to take a look on my previous coverage of Thor The Dark World here and here. Following is the short synopsis:

Ender's Game - Latest International Banner (Nov 2013)

Ender's GameEnder's Game, adaptation from the popular sci-fi novel of the same name (1985) by author, Orson Scott Card will be in cinemas in November 2013. Those of you who have read the novel will know that the main actor is a kid, but with A-list supporting actors like Harrison Ford and Ben Kingsley, I have a good feeling that it will be an entertaining movie.

Synopsis of Ender's Game (source: imdb.com):

The Earth was ravaged twice by the Buggers, an alien race seemingly determined to destroy humanity. Seventy years later, the people of Earth remain banded together to prevent their own annihilation from this technologically superior alien species. He is separated from his beloved sister and his terrifying brother and brought to battle school in orbit around earth. He will be tested and honed into an empathetic killer who begins to despise himself as he learns to fight in hopes of saving Earth and his family

Recently, an International Banner (UK version) is surfaced online and it looks cool and complete with all the main casts in one poster. Keep reading to see the full-size International Banner of Ender's Game.

[NEWS] Coming Soon... Blockbusters From Chinawood

china's richest man, Wang Jianlin
China's richest man, Wang Jianlin
Be afraid of China, be very afraid of China (from the film industry's competitiveness perspective)!

Two days ago, news about China's richest man, Wang Jianlin (left), planned to build the world's largest movie studio has set the worldwide film industry scene ablaze. So, in the forthcoming future, Hollywood might be overtaken by the Chinawood.

The $8.2-billion project is named the Oriental Movie Metropolis, it will be the house of 20 studios and a permanent underwater stage. It is to be located an hour outside Qingdao, a coastal city with more than 8.7 million people. It will also house a 1,300-acre theme park that includes a wax museum, yacht club, exhibition center and hotels.

In the recent official publicity stunt, some of the Hollywood A list actors/actresses like John Travolta, Nicole Kidman and Catherine Zeta-Jones were presented. Soon, the east might just over-shadowed the west in the world film industry.

Weekly Box Office Movies in US (Ending 2013/09/22)

prisonersHere are the TOP 5 Movies from US for the week ending 22th Sep 2013 (Sun).

Last week, the new release Prisoners (Hugh Jackman and Jack Gyllenhaal) took the top seat with a promising $21.4. It seems that this emotional and powerful rendition about a helpless father (Hugh Jackman) taking matter on his own hand when his daughter (and her friend) was kidnapped.

The other new release, Battle Of The Year (Josh Holloway) sis poorly on its opening week with a mere $5 millions. I guess dance musical genre is dying off, slowly.

Now, enjoy the chart...

Why Press Release Is Still Relevant In Film Industry?

As far as film industry is concern, press release is still an important branding tool for the film distributors to announce their new movie projects in an official scale. This is in addition to whatever social media marketing strategy that they have adopted.

The reason is quite obvious, with the influx of citizen journalism via their personal websites/blogs, reliability of the news is always a question mark. Thus, news from the authority online news site like The New York Times speaks louder than the smaller sites/blogs.

As per News Wire Service, following are the top 5 reasons why press release is still relevant.

gravity movie
In about 2 weeks' time, we will finally able to watch the presently most anticipated sci-fi, Gravity in big screens. With or without the latest featurette that I am about to share next, I will sure to watch it in IMAX 3D as I viewed that this is the kind of movie that will give you a totally different IMAX experience.

If you are still clueless about Gravity, fret not, check out my earlier posts below:

Else, you can just check out the following short synopsis of the movie (Gravity will be in cinemas on 4th Oct 2013):

Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone-tethered to nothing but each other and spiralling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth...and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

The Minions Spin-Off Movie Is Pushed To 2015

the minions movie,
The insanely popular minions spin-off movie from The Despicable Me franchise was originally slated to be released in December 2014. However, recently Universal Pictures has announced that the film will only be released in July 2015. Anyway, it is just another 7 more months wait, I am sure the fans can cope with it! ;-)

In relation to this minions movie spin-off, previous reports have said that it will be set all the way back in the 1960s - long before the minions teamed up with Steve Carell's Gru. The story will follow three of the little yellow guys as they search for a new master to serve. They wind up working for a supervillain named Scarlet Overkill (who will be voiced by Sandra Bullock) and her husband Herb Overkill (voiced by Jon Hamm) [source : CinemaBlend.com].

On the face of it, it looks like 2015 will be jam packed with sequels and spin-off blockbusters, joining the pack are The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Star Wars: Episode VII, Batman vs. Superman, Jurassic World, Bond 24, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, The Penguins of Madagascar, Hotel Transylvania 2, Kung Fu Panda 3 and more.

What about 2014? We will cover that in another post.

Cheers!

THOR - The Dark World : 2 New Character Posters Focusing on ladies (Nov 2013)

thor the dark world jane fosterIn less than two months, we will be seeing the highly anticipated super-hero sequel, Thor The Dark World in the cinemas near us. From all the media release so far, it seems to be an epic which might surpass the first Thor.

Recently, Marvel has released 2 more character posters featuring the lady leads i.e. Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexandeer). Not too sure about their relationship yet but personally I guess they might be involved in love triangle with Thor.

Before viewing the posters, let's recap the short synopsis of the film below:

Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos...but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

[NEWS] The Expendables 3 And Independence Day 2

the expendables 3 kelsey grammerThe third instalment of popular action thriller franchise, The Expendables 3 is already in the filming stage and slated to be released in August 2014. The latest news from Liongate is that Kelsey Grammer will be the new inclusion to the project. He'll play an ex-mercenary by the name of Bonaparte, a role that the outlet claims was initially offered to Nicolas Cage.

On the other hand, the other long awaited sequel, Independence Day 2 is also a confirmed project, Roland Emmerich will continue to direct this successful vehicle of his (since 1996). Even though it is still early stage but he has conveyed the following with Empire which is a positive sign:

"I should get the script pretty soon, then I'll try to get it into good shape for one or two months and, if that happens, we'll announce it and start production… We've created a mythology around these aliens, which is really cool. You have to create a mythology because people want to see a bigger picture."

Independence Day 2 is slated to be released in July 2015.

What do you think about these 2 upcoming projects?

The Dark Knight In 8 Bits Cinema

the dark knight, video, 8 bitThe last batman trilogy is definitely one of the best trilogy in the film history (at least in the superhero genre). Even though the last instalment of the trilogy was released a year ago but the epic cinematic experience is still lingering in our mind. Besides the titular dark crusader aka batman (Christian Bale), the villains like Joker (Heath Ledger) and Bane (Tom Hardy) did their part so well to be the most memorable villains around.

Recently, Cinefex has released a very cool video clip that rendering The Dark Knight into 8-bit format (if you are "old" enough and like arcade games, you will find this very familiar).

I hope you enjoy the video like I do.

[NEWS] The next Avatar sequel Will Feature Arnold Schwarzenegger

arnold schwarzenegger
2009's Avatar is the most successful movie in the film industry in so many levels. Besides broken the sales record of all time, it has also set the new milestone for the 3D and IMAX movie experience. In fact, 3 sequels (2016, 2017 and 2018) are already in the pipeline and will be directed by James Cameron again. Clap clap!!

James Cameron has shared that the next Avatar will take place after the events of the first movie. the humans will be back to cause some more problems with Na'vi and one of the "nasty humans" will be…Arnold Schwarzenegger! Of course, Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will reprise their respective Na'vi roles in the sequels as well.

By the way, this is not the first time for Arnold and James to team up. They have actually worked together many years back with the most noticeable collaboration in The Terminator (1984), Termination 2 : Judgement Day (1991) and True Lies (1994). So, it will be be like a reunion after more than years.

Click on the images below to see more details of the movies:

Movie Is A Form Of Art (Infographic)

Movie is a form of art that aimed to stimulate our two key senses, which are sighting and hearing. That explains why the there is always constant stream of movie goers to the cinemas. That explains why I liked movie so much ;-)

Talking about art, the key source of materials and inspiration would be from art museums. Just take for an example, in Singapore (where I am now), we have Singapore Art Museum  which is a hip place for the young and old to get up close and personal with the modern art.

Of course, if you are staying in US (especially somewhere near New York City) and an art lover, then I am sure you know THE MOMA (Museum of Modern Art).

Personally, I like to visit all kind of museums as they are a great place to challenge our senses and a great inspirational source of my muse. What about you?

Cheers!

Frozen - The Cold New Poster (Nov 2013)

frozen 3d animation From the creators of "Tangled" and "Wreck-It Ralph" and directed by Chris Buck (Tarzan, Surf’s Up), here come another fantastic looking animation (in 3D) in Nov 2013. The movie features the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad and Alan Tudyk.

Personally, I have a little bit of "complaint" about the snowman (named Olaf) [from the teaser trailer/poster that you are going to see next] as it doesn't look cute enough to me (maybe it's caused by the skinny outfit??) What do you think?

Synopsis of Frozen:

In Frozen, a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, so Anna (voice of Bell) must team up with Kristoff, a daring mountain man, on the grandest of journeys to find the Snow Queen (voice of Menzel) and put an end to the icy spell. Encountering Everest-like extremes, mystical creatures and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.

Frozen will be released on 27th November 2013.

Recently, Disney has just released a new poster, keep reading for the full-size poster and teaser trailer.

Weekly Box Office Movies in US (Ending 2013/09/15)

insidious chapter 2
Here are the TOP 5 Movies from US for the week ending 15th Sep 2013 (Sun).

James Wan (the Malaysia-born director that brought us The Conjuring and Insidious) did it once again in terrifying the US audience with his latest serving of Insidious Chapter 2 (Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne). With a mere $5 millions budget, it gained immediate returns of 8 folds on its opening weekend with mouth watering $41 millions (WOW!). The sad news is, he is leaving the horror genre for good (I still hope this is not true) and his next project is Fast And Furious 7.

The other new release, a comedy with huge casts, The Family (Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer and Tommy Lee Jones) did quite well too at second spot with $14.5 millions.

Now, enjoy the chart...

Fast And Furious 7 - The First Glimpse (July 2014)

fast and furious 7
If you like fast cars and high octane action stuff, I am pretty sure that Fast And Furious franchise is your favourite. After the huge success of the Fast And Furious 6 this year, Fast and Furious 7 (rumoured to be the last in this franchise) is in the pipeline.

The good news is, it is directed by the most popular horror movie director in the recent years, James Wan (Saw, Insidious, The Conjuring and the currently screening Insidious Chapter 2). A lot are to be expected from James Wan even though it is a new genre for him. I like all his previous works and hope to terrify us once again in different way.

Fast And Furious 7 will be released on 11 Jul 2014 (it is still yet to confirm whether it will be released in 3D or IMAX) and following is the short synopsis of the movie :

After Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew helped take down Owen Shaw, his brother Ian Shaw (Jason Statham) now wants revenge.

Recently, Vin Diesel has released 2 movie stills from Fast And Furious 7 in his facebook to create some buzz over the movie. Keep reading to check out the movie stills.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 - The More Promising 3D Movie in September

Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2
After the Summer holidays period, there are less big budgeted blockbuster movies in store, let alone the 3D movies. In the month September, the animation sequel, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2 could be the only promising one to enter the cinema for 3D movie experience.

Yes, the title is kind of odd but such oddity is perfect for cartoon (or animation in this case) rendering. The story continues from where it left off from the 2009's Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. This time round, the introduction of foodimals (the hybrids of food and animals also known as mutant food beasts) bring the animation to a new high (in terms of the surprise and oddity factors).

Directed by new directors (Cody Cameron, Kris Pearn), from the trailers released so far, it seems to be a fun and hilarious animation fits for family outing. Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 will be released on 27th September 2013 in USA (10th October 2013 in Singapore).

Keep reading to watch all the movie details (posters, stills and trailers) of Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2.

Why I Blog And Why You Should Too [Infographic]

blog
After slightly more than 360 posts later, I thought it is time for me to have a review of this blog venture of mine and share some of my random recap. Thus, this post is not about movie, it is about blogging. I believed you folks don't mind this deviation as I hope to spice up this blog with a bit of difference spices! ;-)

I started this blog in late November 2011 (WOW! it's almost 2 years ago) and to be frank this is not my first  and only blog. I do have two other blogs which I started earlier on the same year (2011) and still maintaining them (even though less active as compared to this one). One of them is just my personal blog (Great Little Moments) and the other is on Internet Marketing (IM Foundation).

So, why do I blog? I guess I can conclude the answer as follows: I blog because....

1. I like to write
2. I like to create my own voice in the online community
3. It's easy to kick-start/maintain a blog
4. It's free (or at the very most, low cost) to blog
5. It has potential to earn residual and passive income
6. It's fun and still is.

Especially on the last point, as long as you've found your passion, the fun will just keep flowing in with your blog. So, if I can blog, so can you! Maybe it is time for you to consider starting a blog too, if you've not done so?

Still need some convincing? Maybe the following infographic on Blogging (courtesy of Blogskinny) can provide some enlightenment:

Ender's Game is an adaptation of Orson Scott Card's 1985 novel starring Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford, Sir Ben Kinglsey and Abigail Breslin. It will hit theaters on 1st November 2013 in IMAX.  Following is the synopsis of the movie:

If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.

Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Weekly Box Office Movies in US (Ending 2013/09/08)

riddick
Here are the TOP 5 Movies from US for the week ending 8th Sep 2013 (Sun).

Last weekend, the only new release Riddick (Vin Diesel's sci-fi vehicle) tops the chart with $18.7 millions, which is within the expectation of the industry.

One surprising reverse trend last week is Instruction Not Included, whereby it move 2 places up from 5th place (2 weeks ago) to 3rd place (last week). It is a warming sign for small budget foreign language films.

The Secret Life Of Walter MItty - The Odd Yet Intriguing Posters And Trailer (Dec 2013) [Non 3D]

the secret life of walter mitty
First, do take note that The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty is not a 3D or IMAX movie! So why do I still share it in a 3D movie blog like this? The simple reason is because I was intrigued by the trailer and poster of this remake and I thought you folks will find it interesting too. Hope I am right ;-)

The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty is a remake of 1947 film with the same name (adapted from the original 1939 short story by James Thurber). You might thought that the story is so aged but fret not as the concept seems to be timeless.

The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty is slated to be released on the Christmas Day and following is the short synopsis of the movie:

a day-dreamer who escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job along with that of his co-worker (Kristen Wiig) are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.

young detective dee rise of the sea dragon
Following my earlier coverage regarding the upcoming Chinese 3D movie Young Detective Dee - Rise Of The Sea Dragon (狄仁杰之神都龙王) a few weeks ago, finally, the very first full-length trailer is here!

Young Detective Dee - Rise Of The Sea Dragon is a prequel to the 2010's Detective Dee And The Mystery Of Phantom Flame (狄仁杰之通天帝国). As the movie title disclosed, it is the story about Detective Dee (equivalent to the Sherlock Holmes from the West) in his younger years.

ROBOCOP - The Impressive First Trailer (Feb 2014)

robocop 2014When the outfit of upcoming reboot of Robocop first surfaced online sometime back, lots of negative responses from the fans follow suit. Of course, it doesn't deter the progress of the project and it seems that the film maker might have made a right decision.

Recently, Columbia Pictures released the very first trailer of Robocop and it does look promising (at least better than I expected). Directed by José Padilha and starring Joel Kinnaman , Abbie Cornish, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, and Samuel L. Jackson. Following is the synopsis of the film:

In "RoboCop," the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

Robocop will be released in IMAX on 7th Feb 2014.

GRAVITY - The Heart Stopping New Trailer (October 2013)

gravityOccasionally, we will come across movie teaser or trailer that failed to fade away from our mind and ever since the first glimpse, we are screaming for more details until its release. GRAVITY is one such movie.

So far, rave and positive early reviews were surfaced online and offline, especially from those lucky few who have a chance to saw it first hand. Recently, the Avatar director, James Cameron, shared his opinion about the movie and following is from his own mouth:

"I was stunned, absolutely floored. I think it’s the best space photography ever done, I think it’s the best space film ever done, and it’s the movie I’ve been hungry to see for an awful long time. What is interesting is the human dimension. Alfonso and Sandra working together to create an absolutely seamless portrayal of a woman fighting for her life in zero gravity."

Note: Even though James Cameroon did help out Alfonso Cuaron (director of Gravity) on the film but I am pretty sure that his comment is not far off. By the way, Gravity will be released on 4th Oct 2013 in IMAX 3D.
