percy jackson sea of monsters
Monster movie is IN nowadays, in fact, they are evergreen! About one and a half month after releasing the much anticipated giant monsters blockbuster, Pacific Rim (11th Jul 2013), another monsters-filled movie, Percy Jackson - Sea Of Monsters will be released in the cinema from 29th Aug 2013 onwards.

Sequel to the 2010's Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief, the story follows the adventure of the son of Poseidon (Percy Jackson) in preventing an ancient devil from rising. Lots of monsters and demigods are expected and since it will be released in 3D, lots of cool special effects are expected as well.

Synopsis of Percy Jackson - Sea Of Monsters:

Percy Jackson has had an unnervingly quiet school year. But then he discovers that the magical borders protecting Half Blood Hill are failing. Unless something is done, the camp will be attacked by demons and monsters. The only way to restore power to the camp's borders and to save their home is to find the mythical Golden Fleece. And the only who can undertake this dangerous quest are Percy and his friends. Embarking on a treacherous odyssey into the uncharted waters of the Sea of Monsters (known to humans as the Bermuda Triangle), they battle terrifying creatures, an army of zombies, and the ultimate Evil.

Man Of Tai Chi - The Directorial Debut of Keanu Reeves ( Nov 2013)

man of tai chi
Man Of Tai Chi is the directorial debut of once-most handsome actor on the planet, Keanu Reeves (more about this later*). He has a part to play in it too, seemingly as a villain.

As the title implied, it is a martial art (Kungfu) movie featuring strong supporting casts from Hong Kong like Karen Mok and Simon Yam. However, I was taken aback by the use of ex-stuntman (Tiger Chen Hu) as the lead role of the movie. I personally view that it could be a major flaw for the movie as this Tiger seems to lack the star power (even though he might be able to "fight" well).

Man Of Tai Chi will be released in Nov 2013 and following is the short synopsis of the film :

A young martial artist's unparallelled Tai Chi skills land him in a highly lucrative underworld fight club.

The LEGO Movie - First Trailer

the lego movieFirst, I must first admit that I am not a LEGO fan and I don't see this (LEGO movie) coming in such a big scale. Warner Bros has just released the frist Movie Poster and Trailer for this upcoming Avenger-like lego movie. Yes, you hear me right, everything and all thing will be in LEGO.

I am sure LEGO fans (big or small) will find it interesting and rush to see it in big screen (and probably in 3D too). But personally, I don't see myself paying to see this in cinema ;-)

Short synopsis of The LEGO movie:

An ordinary LEGO minifigure, mistakenly thought to be the extraordinary MasterBuilder, is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil LEGO tyrant from gluing the universe together

By the way, the movie will be voiced by huge casts like Morgan Freeman, Lian Neeson and Will Ferrell.  It will be in cinemas near you in Feb 2014.

Now, enjoy the movie poster and the very first trailer (the batman part is quite funny actually):

Weekly Box Office Movies in US (Ending 2013/06/16)

man of steel
Here are the TOP 5 Movies from US for the week ending 16th June 2013 (Sun).

SPECIAL NOTE : As expected, the newly crowned chart topper is non other than the newly released Superman reboot, Man Of Steel. In fact, it has crashed the June opening weekend sales record of all time with a whopping $117 millions. I've just watched it in IMAX 3D and I must say that I am pretty happy with what I've seen. However, just like any other superhero movie, there are bounds to be fans/critics have something to complaint about whichever way it was being presented. For example, my friend Ben has given his longest and most honest negative review of Man Of Steel here

The other R-rated new release, This Is The End (James Franco, Jonah Hill) did quite well at second place with $20.7 millions.

Man Of Steel - Longest And Honest Guest Review That Might Offend Many Fans

man of steel
Man Of Steel, the hottest movie at the moment, has been unofficially announced to be the biggest superman movie on its opening week ticket sales (in the USA, it is estimated to hit the box office with a better than expected result of $120 millions range). It is potentially the second biggest opening week of  2013, just behind the Iron Man 3 of $170+ millions. Even with it's mixed review from the movie critics, it is still expected to make a killing in the international box offices. By the way, Man Of Steel sequel is already a confirmed project!

That being said, just like any movie, there are always area that some viewers see it as poor, lacking or not up to par. Today, I am going to share one of the longest and most honest guest review by my friend, Ben. From the review, you can tell that he is a superman fan and he has written it with an heavy heart.

As per my blog title, I am sure many of you might not be agreeable with him (sorry Ben ;-)) and think that Man Of Steel is so amazing that it could possibly be the best superman movie to-date. So be it as I am sure both your view and Ben's review are valid ones as movie is one of the most subjective entertainment.

Now, read on for the longest and most honest guest review from Ben...

Elysium - The Stunning New Trailer (Aug 2013)

elysiumElysium, the upcoming sci-fi, starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster looks cooler in the latest full length trailer. More intense, more action and I can relate more toward the dire situation that the character of Matt Demon (Max De Costa) is going through.

Directed by the District 9 (2009) director, Neill Blomkamp, the storyline of this futuristic post Apocalypse sci-fi looks somewhat "been there", "done that". Having said that, I am a fan of Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, hope that their chemistry do sparkle in the movie. Oh, by the way, Jodie Foster will be the villain in the movie.

Short synopsis of the Elysium (source: GeekTyrant):

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the planet’s crime and poverty, and they critically need the state-of-the-art medical care available on Elysium – but some in Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens’ luxurious lifestyle. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well

Elysium will be released in the theatres near you in August 2013.

300: Rise Of An Empire - This First Trailer Looks Epic

300 rise of an empireYet another sequel coming our way, not now but in 2014. 300 : Rise Of An Empire is a sequel to the highly popular 300 (2006). We all know that the king Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and his 300 man died in 300, so this sequel is not about him anymore (don't expect the classic shouting from him [WE ARE SPARTANS!] in this sequel).

The director of 300, Zack Snyder wrote and produced this sequel. He is also the one whom directed the "just released" and soon to be epic, Man Of Steel. So, thre is something special to look out for in this sequel.

Following is the short synopsis of the movie (source: imdb.com):

After its victory over Leonidas' 300, the Persian Army under the command of Xerxes marches south towards the major Greek city-states. The Democratic city of Athens, first on the path of Xerxes' army, bases its strength on its fleet, led by admiral Themistocles. Themistocles is forced to an unwilling alliance with the traditional rival of Athens, oligarchic Sparta whose might lies with its superior infantry troops. But Xerxes still reigns supreme in numbers over sea and land.

Warner Bros has just released a new official poster and the very first trailer which looks epic in every angle. 300: Rise Of An Empire will only be in cinemas on 7th Mar 2014.

The Hobbit - The Desolution Of Smaug : First Trailer Is Finally here!

the hobbit - the desolution of smaugFinally, the much anticipated trailer for the second instalment of The Hobbit Trilogy, The Desolution Of Smaug is HERE! Warner Bros has released the first trailer a couple of hours ago and my first impression is : WOW!

The trailer is amazing and more action packed as compared to the first instalment, The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey (2012). The Desolution Of Smaug will be in theatres near you on 13th December 2013. In case you don't know, Smaug is actually one of the last remaining dragons in Middle-Earth.

Short synopsis of the movie (source: imdb.com):

The Dwarves, Bilbo and Gandalf have successfully escaped the Misty Mountains, and Bilbo has gained the One Ring. They all continue their journey to get their gold back from the Dragon, Smaug.

Weekly Box Office Movies in US (Ending 2013/06/09)

the purge
Here are the TOP 5 Movies from US for the week ending 9th June 2013 (Sun).

SPECIAL NOTE : This week, the newly crowned top movie, The Purge (Ethan Hawke) scares the movie goers to a storming beginning. From the producer of Paranormal Activity and Sinister, this new release horror movie with wild and bizarre concept proved once again that horror genre is here to stay. How weird is the storyline, you may ask. Check out the following short synopsis of the movie (source: imdb.com) and decide for yourself:

In an America wracked by crime and overcrowded prisons, the government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period in which any and all criminal activity-including murder-becomes legal. The police can't be called. Hospitals suspend help. It's one night when the citizenry regulates itself without thought of punishment. On this night plagued by violence and an epidemic of crime, one family wrestles with the decision of who they will become when a stranger comes knocking. When an intruder breaks into James Sandin's (Ethan Hawke) gated community during the yearly lockdown, he begins a sequence of events that threatens to tear a family apart. Now, it is up to James, his wife, Mary (Lena Headey), and their kids to make it through the night without turning into the monsters from whom they hide.

Another cool stats about The Purge is that it was produced with a mere budget of $3 millions and already earned more than 12 folds on its opening week ($36.4 millions). How cool is that?

The other new release, The Internship (Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson) did not do well though. Managed to stay at fourth place with merely $18.1 millions.

Man Of Steel - The Evolution Of The Shield Of Superman [Infographic]

man of steel infographic of the icon of supermanIn a few days' time, Man Of Steel, the much awaited superman reboot will be released internationally. To be exact, the movie will be released on 13th June 2013, in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D too.

Recently, I've been sharing quite a few promotional media of Man Of Steel, if you are interested for a recap, check out the following links:

When talk about the appearance of Superman, the first few things that come to our mind will be the  suit with the red cape, the iconic "S" symbol on the suit and the red underwear (by the way, the superman will not be wearing any red underwear in this reboot ;-)). One icon that evolved over time is the "S" symbol, you might be surprised on the number of different versions there are  throughout all these years. Courtesy of HalloweenCostumes.com, they have recently generated a cool Infographic showcasing the evolution of the icon of Superman (from 1938 to 2013, both in comics and movies).

Fast And Furious 6 - How They Shoot The Finale Plane Chasing Scene

fast and furious 6
Fast And Furious 6 has stomped the box offices over the world for the last 2 weeks and still remain at top place on its second week of release (not even After Earth [Will Smith] and Now You See Me can beat it).

Adrenaline rush with speed racing cars and explosion are the key theme of the movie. One of the most memorable scene (among many others) is the finale scene whereby the Vin Diesel and team are chasing the plane with their fast cars. Of course, as you might already know, it is almost impossible to shoot it with the real plane and cars. Yes, the cars are real but the plane is from special effect!

Recently, Wired has released a video showcasing the breakdown on how the scene was being shot. Now enjoy the 2 minutes clip in HD.

Weekly Box Office Movies in US (Ending 2013/06/02)

fast and furious 6
Here are the TOP 5 Movies from US for the week ending 2nd June 2013 (Sun).

SPECIAL NOTE : Once again, Fast And Furious 6 retain the  top spot of the US Box Office Chart for the second week. Amid the other two big budgeted new releases, Now You See Me (at second place) and After Earth (at third place), seems like Fast and Furious 6's speed demon still sell.

M. Night Shyamalan's After Earth is yet another disappointment  from his many recent works. Even the Smith father-and-son team (Will Smith and Jaden Smith) can't save the bland script of this post-apocalypse sci-fi. Frankly speaking, the plot and idea is so "been there" and "done that"!

Man Of Steel - This 13 Minutes HD Featurette Speaks Volumn

man of steel
Man Of Steel, the upcoming superman reboot will be in cinema over the globe next week (to be exact, from 13th June 2013 onward). Not long after my sharing of massive trailers, teasers and TV spots in my earlier post, Warner Bros has released yet another massive 13 minutes HD featurette that answer many doubts that the superhero fans might have in this reboot.

Just to name a few, following are some answers you will get in this 13 minutes behind the scene clip:

1. What is the meaning of the "S" symbol in the superman suit?
2. Why there is no red underwear in this version of superman suit?
3. What is the rating of director, Zack Snyder from the mouth of the peer actors/actress like Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon and Russell Crowe etc..
4. And many new-been seen new footages...

Now, enjoy the clip below!
