Divergent - The new Hunger Games? (Mar 2014)

divergent
When I first read the intriguing synopsis of Divergent (an action movie set in a futuristic dystopia), I quite like the concept of dividing society into different factions and the first thing that comes to my mind is: would this be the next Hunger Games of 2014?

Directed by Neil Burger (whom last brought us Limitless [2011]) and starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney and Maggie Q (from Hong Kong), I personally think that it will be another teenage sensation blockbuster in 2014.

Synopsis of Divergent:

Set in a futuristic dystopia where society is divided into five factions that each represent a different virtue, teenagers have to decide if they want to stay in their faction or switch to another - for the rest of their lives. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) makes a choice that surprises everyone. Then Tris and her fellow faction-members have to live through a highly competitive initiation process to live out the choice they have made. They must undergo extreme physical and intense psychological tests, that transform them all. But Tris has a secret that she is Divergent, which means she doesn't fit into any one group. If anyone knew, it would mean a certain death. As she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, this secret might help her save the people she loves... or it might destroy her.

thor the dark world, thorIn the past few weeks or so, when you are browsing any of the movie blogs (like this one), I am sure you will chance upon quite a few movie news on the upcoming super-hero sequel, Thor - The Dark World. For my earlier coverage in this blog, click here.

Recently, Marvel's released two more awesome character posters featuring Thor and Loki (who else if not them?) and Empire (popular movie magazine) to top it off with icing on the cake by releasing two motion covers featuring the similar characters.

Before the posters and motion cover, check out the short synopsis of Thor - The Dark World below:

1d, one direction, this is us
Here are the TOP 5 Movies from US for the week ending 1st Sep 2013 (Sun).

Last weekend, the new release documentary about the mega boy band that shoot to the stardom in recent years, One Direction - This Is Us tops the chart with $17 millions. Lee Daniel's The Butler (Forest Whitaker) continue its impressive run with $14.7 millions at second place.

The other new release (foreign film, in Spanish), Instruction Not Included doing quite well at fifth place with $7.5. The reason it did well is because this is a peanut budget project (estimated budget is about $5 millions).

Interstellar - The Plot Details (November 2014)

interstellar
If you are a Christopher Nolan fan, you might have already know that his next directorial project is an original sci-fi called Interstellar. Just like his 2010 super-project, Inception, the story was written by the Nolan brothers and will be directed by him in IMAX camera.

Again, it looks set to be another star studded epic. So far, the confirmed casts are Matthew McConaughey, Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, Anne Hathaway and John Lithgow. There is no official synopsis being released yet but over the last few weeks, following are some unofficial movie plots surfaced online:
"In the future, governments and economies across the globe have collapsed, food is scarce, NASA is no more, and the 20th Century is to blame. A mysterious rip in spacetime opens and it's up to whatever is left of NASA to explore and offer up hope for mankind"
"Set in the future, the movie details the toll climate change has taken on agriculture, with corn the last crop to be cultivated. The scientists embark on a journey through a worm hole into other dimensions in search of somewhere other crops can be grown."
Christopher Nolan - The director of INTERSTELLAR
Interstellar will be released on 7th Nov 2014 and I am quite sure it will be a huge movie release event then (just like his Inception and Dark Knight Trilogy).

Are you excited about the movie?

Cheers!

Gravity - The New IMAX Poster

gravity, sandra bullockGravity, one of my most anticipated movie in Oct 2013 has been released with a new IMAX poster. For my earlier post on Gravityclick here. As per some positive comments surfaced on line, it will be out of this world's movie experience (literally). Top it with 100% rating on RottenTomatoes (one of the authority movie review site), it is one hell of the movie that everyone will be talking about from now till its release.

This is the kind of movie that once you've watched any of the earlier teaser/trailer, you will have the urge of watching it in IMAX 3D, or at least in IMAX.

Gravity will be released in IMAX 3D on 4th Oct 2013. Short synopsis of the film:

Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone-tethered to nothing but each other and spiralling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth...and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Now, enjoy the IMAX Poster.

47 Ronin - The New Japanese Poster And Trailer (Dec 2013)

47 ronin, keanu reeves
The upcoming Keanu Reeves vehicle, 47 Ronin is gaining its momentum in their marketing effort (especially from their Japanese distributors). From its first international trailer (click here to view the formerly released trailer and movie posters), it does look much more interesting than his directorial debut, Man Of Tai Chi

Today, I am going to share one Japanese Poster (which I like the tone of the poster a lot) and one Japanese trailer of 47 Ronin, new footage can be found in this short trailer.

47 Ronin is being directed by Carl Erik Rinsch (his first featured film) and it also stars Hiroyuki Sanada, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Tadanobu Asano, and Rinko Kikuchi. Short synopsis of the film:

A band of samurai set out to avenge the death and dishonour of their master at the hands of a ruthless shogun

Transformers 4 - The First Official Production Photo

transformers 4
Transformers 4 is still in the stage of shooting and recently there are a few behind the scene shooting videos surfaced online (click here to view them). Michael Bay continues to direct the fourth instalment of this successful franchise. With the completely brand new casts (Shia LaBeaouf will no longer in this instalment), Mark Wahlberg will take on the main role in this brand new story line and plot.

Transformers 4 is slated to be released on 27th June 2014 and following is the short synopsis of the film:

A mechanic and his daughter make a discovery that brings down Autobots and Decepticons - and a paranoid government official - on them.

Recently, Michael Bay has released the first production photo from the set and it is confirmed that Dinabots (consists of several subgroups of robots, each of whose transformed mode is that of a dinosaur or similar prehistoric animal) will be in the movie as well. Getting excited already??

Pompeii - Teaser Trailer Of This Historical Volcanic Disaster Looks Promising (Feb 2014)

First, I must admit that I like disaster movies, especially those involved volcanic eruption (hence, I've watched Dante's Peak [1997] three times and Volcano [1997] two times, all in the cinemas). Thus, you might say that there is a slight bias regarding this post title of Pompeii (as it is a movie revolves around the historical eruption of Mt. Vesuvius). However, I am quite sure you will agree with me after watching this epic teaser trailer.
Dante's Peak (1997)
Volcano (1997)
Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (whom last brought us the successful franchise sequel, Resident Evil - Retribution [2012]), even with lesser known casts like Kit Harington, Emily Browning and Carrie-Anne-Moss, this disaster-theme movie still worth the wait and I am looking froward to it in 2014.
Resident Evil - Retribution (2012)
Short synopsis of Pompeii:

Set in the days leading up to the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, a slave on a ship heading for Naples works to get home to save the woman he loves and his best friend, a gladiator trapped inside the city's coliseum.

Pompeii will be released on 28th Feb 2014 in 2D and 3D. Now, enjoy the first teaser trailer below.
