Weekly Box Office Movies in US (Ending 2013/04/14)

42, movie poster
Here are the TOP 5 Movies from US for the week ending 14th April 2013 (Sun).

SPECIAL NOTE : This week, the life story of an American Baseball legend, Jackie Robinson, with the movie title 42 took the top spot in the box office with a promising $27.5 millions. The other new release, an horror-comedy sequel, Scary Movie 5 was at second spot with a less than encouraging sales (at $14.2 millions). The following next few weeks will be more interesting and busy as the big budgeted blockbusters like Oblivion, Pain & Gain, Iron Man 3 and Star Trek Into Darkness are coming up soon.

the lone ranger, johnny deppFrom the producer (Jerry Bruckheimer) and director (Gore Verbinski) team that brought us the Pirates Of The Caribbean Trilogy, they team up with Johnny Depp once again and bringing us a remake of the western classic, The Lone Ranger

Disney has just released two new character posters featuring the two main characters i.e. Tonto (Johnny Depp) and John Reid aka The Lone Ranger (Armie Hammer).

Weekly Box Office Movies in US (Ending 2013/04/07)

evil dead 2013
Here are the TOP 5 Movies from US for the week ending 7th April 2013 (Sun).

SPECIAL NOTE : The remake of 1981's classical horror movie, Evil Dead scares the hell out of the audience in USA and tops the chart with a warm $26 millions. Same storyline but with different depth of horror and it's deemed as the most terrifying film in the recent years. The original 1981 version was directed by Sam Raimi (the great director whom brought us The Spiderman Trilogy) and this remake was directed by Fede Alvarez (mind you, this is his first full-featured length film, so, it's really an awesome job for a "newbie").

The other "new" release (re-release of Jurassic Park 3D) doing pretty handsomely at fourth place with $18.2 millions.

The Croods and G.I. Joe Retaliation have a tie at third place with $21.1 millions.

The Great Gatsby - A Remake With Promising Casts Plus 15 Epic Posters (May 2013)

the great gatsby, leonardo dicaprioThe Great Gatsby, the fourth remake (in movie) with the same title is an adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's Long Island-set novel. In this latest remake, Leonardo DiCaprio starred as the titular character, Jay Gatsby. Other big names in the casts are Topbey Maguire (starred as Nick Carraway, still remember the Spiderman in the previous Trilogy?), Carey Mullingan (starred as Daisy Buchanan) and many more.

Directed by Baz Luhrmann whom brought us a number of epic movies like Romeo + Juliet (1996, also starring Leonardo DiCaprio), Mouline Rouge (2001) and Australia (2008). This forthcoming epic to be set in 1922 of New York City, so, for those who like period movie, this seems to be a great movie not to be missed. In fact, this movie reminded me as the land version of "Titanic"! ;-)

Synopsis of The Great Gatsby (from GeekTyrant):

The Great Gatsby follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

The Great Gatsby will be released on 10th May 2013 (USA) and will be in 3D format as well.

In two weeks' time, the highly anticipated Sci-f, Oblivion (Tom Cruise and Olga Kurylenko) will be in cinema near you (in IMAX as well). Directed by Joseph Konsinski (from the Tron Legacy fame), this post-apocalyptic epic seems to be perfect for an IMAX experience.
