Disney Bought LucasFilm For $4 Billions [News]

Good news for the Star Wars fans! The 7th episode of Star Wars franchise is being committed and announced during the official announcement of LucasFilm being acquired by Disney for a hefty $4.05 billions (in cash and stock). But the fans have to wait for awhile though as it was slated for 2015 release.

George Lucas, current CEO of Lucasfilm, the production company that brought us the popular Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, quoted as saying :
“I’m confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come.”

Weekly Box Office Movies in US (Ending 2012/10/28)

Here are the TOP 5 Movies from US for the week ending 28th Oct 2012 (Sun).

SPECIAL NOTE : What a surprise and rare scenario! Argo (Ben Affleck) claimed the top spot on its third week in the box office. It has received rave review and good words of mouth. So, it has proven once again that great and intrigue story-line goes a long way.

The other new release, Cloud Atlas (Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving etc..) was a disappointment at 3rd place. An ambitious story-telling concept that integrate 6 different stories into one and the characters (from different stories) are intertwined with each other. The best part (or the confusing part) is that the same actors/actresses are playing different characters in the  different stories.

The Hobbit - Giant Gollum Statue At Wellington Airport, New Zealand

If you are going to or already in New Zealand, do pay a visit to Gollum (the key character/creature from The Lord Of The Rings and upcoming prequel, The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey). Recently, a giant Gollum statue has been installed in the Wellington Airport, New Zealand (by WETA).

It looks so freaking real and cool!

Not too sure how long it will stay there but I believed it will be there until the release of the movie in Dec 2012. Thus, if you are a fan of Middle Earth franchise, go experience yourself at the airport and snap, snap, snap (photo)!

Pokemon : The Marvellous And Realistic Version

pokemon
Warning : This post has nothing to do with forthcoming 3D or IMAX movie but I just have to share it because of its AWESOMENESS!

Pokemon, the popular video game (Nintendo) turned anime, manga, trading cards and movies franchise has been around since 1996. I am not a fan of Pokemon but I believed one of its success factor is because of many of its cute and adorable creatures/monsters.

Have you ever thought of what will all these cute and adorable creatures looks like in real life? Or as close as real life?

Cool Coke Stunt Challenges, the 007 Style [Video]

To prepare for the forthcoming grand release of Skyfall, the 23rd installment of 007 franchise, Coke Zero has teamed up with the James Bond franchise for a cool stunt challenges, the 007 style. Previously, Coke Zero also worked on ads for the 2008 release of Quantum of Solace.

What they did this time round is orchestrated an elaborate stunt for unsuspecting train passengers to win exclusive tickets to see Skyfall. This video has gone viral and received 2.1 millions views since its released 3 days ago.

As the promo slogan said it all "Unlock the 007 in you. You have 70 seconds!"

Skyfall - Latest IMAX Poster and Trailer

Fellow James Bond fans, here come another wave of promotional media for Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond Movie! MGM has just released an enhanced version of the international trailer (with never seen before footage) and an IMAX Movie Poster.

Get ready to fall for Skyfall! From the early previews by well known film critics, Skyfall probably is the BEST James Bond movie thus far (some already rated it at a classic i.e. 5 out of 5). Can't wait to see it in IMAX!

Silent Hill : Revelation 3D (Oct 2012)

silent hill revelation 3d, upcoming 3d movie
Halloween is just around the corner. For movie buff, like me, the best thing can happen during Halloween is to watch a really really good horror movie. If you have the same thinking, your wish might be coming true as Silent Hill: Revelation 3D will be released during the Halloween 2012!

A sequel to the hit 2006's Silent Hill, another successful adaptation from video game (besides the Resident Evil franchise which is already in its 5th installment). The  story revolved around the daughter (Heather) of Rose Da Silva (reprise by Radha Mitchell) and the sudden disappearance of Heather's father (Sean Bean). Look out for some shocking revelation, as suggested by the movie title.

Skyfall - Amazing New Behind The Scene Video Footage

Wow! I am sold!
Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond (007) movie has just up their marketing effort to another level by releasing 5 video footage (total about 15 minutes).

After viewing the footage, I must solute the director (Sam Mendes), the casts (especially Daniel Craig [Bond]) and all the crew members involved in this project for bringing us an action franchise that seems so real (in fact, we can deduce from that footage that the reason is because all the action are real!!! In short, very minimal special effect/computer enhancements were introduced). Kudos to them and I am so gonna watch it in IMAX when it is released globally in Oct/Nov 2012.

5 Things You Need To Know About Les Miserables (2012)

les miserables, anne hathaway
This Christmas, one of the the MUST WATCH movie is non other than Les Miserables. This adaptation from one of the most famous Broadway show set to hit the theatre near you on the Christmas Day and it seems to be an epic in the making.

By the way, do you know that prior to this 2012 adaptation, there was an earlier version in 1998 with equally strong casts like Liam Neeson (as Valjean), Geoffrey Rush (as Javert) Uma Thurman (as Fantine) and Claire Danes (as Cossette). How does this 2012 version compared to the 1998 version? That will be a great material for a separate topic in another blog post. I promise I will do my "home work" and write the comparison soon, so do drop by often! ;-)

Meanwhile, let me share with you 5 things that you need to know about the  current version of Les Miserables:

1. All the singing are done by the casts (including Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried etc.)

2. The actor's singing was recorded on-set, to piano accompaniment, so that the singing and acting would merge well. Orchestral music was then added post-production

3. The director of the film is Tom Hooper whom brought us the recent Oscar worthy classic "The King's Speech"

4. Anne Hathaway (as Fantine) shaved her head for the role

5. [SPOILER] There will be an intense suicide scene! (For those who have read the book or watched the earlier adaptation or Broadway show would know who have committed suicide in the show, but I still like to keep it "secret" here! ;-))

Would you be watching Les Miserables in Dec 2012? Feel free to share your view in the comment section.

Cheers!

The Hobbit's very own Stamps and Solid Gold Coins

The Hobbit has just went one level up in their marketing effort. From 1st November onward, The Hobbits fans can get their hand on the New Zealand commemorative coins and stamps (see sample below). How cool is that?

Pricing wise, check out the following quote as indication (source: GeekTyrant):

"The most expensive, made from one ounce (28.3 grams) of pure gold, will set Tolkien enthusiasts back NZ$3,695 ($3,020) but has a face value of just NZ$10, while the cheapest is a NZ$1 coin retailing for NZ$29.90."

Now, here are the sample gold coins and stamps:
