Marvel vs DC Superheroes Movies, who win in US Box Office? [Infographic]

Alright, we all know that superhero movies are mainly come from two super-houses, Marvel and DC. If we were to take a stock (basing on the US Box Office) from way back to 1960s where the superheroes first made it mainstream in the cinema, who will win the battle?

In 2012 alone, the biggest battle is between The Avengers (Marvel) and The Dark Knight Rises (DC). The Avengers won the match by about $174 mil (see the infographic below for actual figures). How does other superhero movies like Superman, Hulk, Fantastic Four, Iron Man etc... fair? Check out the infographic below (source: fancydresscostume.co.uk) for detailed breakdowns. Yes, it is no surprise that Marvel comes out as the overall winner, at least for now.

As this is only the US Box Office, it will be interesting if someone can do a stock take on the international box office, wonder whether the result will be of any different? Meanwhile, enjoy the infographic below!

Which is/are your favourite Superhero movies? For me, my favourite is the latest Batman Trilogy (under the helm of Christopher Nolan).

Cheers!

Les Miserables - The Featurette

Les Miserables is undeniably one of the most successful Broadway show in the history. This year, the reboot is coming to the theater near you during the Christmas period.

With sterling casts like Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anna Hathaway and Amanda SeyFried and the live singing recording concept (as evidenced in the following featurette), it is one of my MUST WATCH movie in December!

Amanda Seyfried's singing skills was evidenced in Mama Mia and Hugh Jackman is a Broadway actor, so his singing skills is non-questionable too. What worries me is about the singing skills of Anna Hathaway and Russell Crowe. After viewing the trailer, I am relieved as Anna Hathaway seems to sing very very well. but Russell Crowe's singing skills is yet to verify! Stay tune for more upcoming teasers, trailers, featurettes.

Meanwhile, enjoy the featurette below:

Life Of Pi - The Latest Trailer

life of pi, movie
"Life Of Pi", the upcoming book adaptation of the same title has been gaining rave review from its first trailer with spectacular graphics and special effects. Directed by Ang Lee (the one that brought us the famous "Crouching Tiger And Hidden Dragon") with with mostly unfamiliar casts, it is still one of the highly anticipated movie this year. It will be released in US on 21 Nov 2012.

The latest trailer is hot from oven and provide more explanation as to why there are so many animals (e.g. the zebra and tiger) inside the cruise that met with disastrous weather/ending.

This is another movie poster from Life Of Pi:

Guest Review : Dredd 3D

The guest review is back, or should I said, Ben is back! ;-)

Yes, today he is going to review Dredd 3D, the reboot of 1995 Sci-fi, Judge Dredd (by Sylvester Stallone). For more movie details (trailers, movie posters and stills), check out my earlier post: Dredd 3D (Sep 2012)

Here you go, Ben's review (Spoiler alert!):

The Character of Dredd was from a comic book, a superhero that's not afraid to use violence, sort of like the Marvel's Punisher but with badges. The concept of police, jury, judge and executioner rolled into one spelled major ethics issue, and in any good director, it would be a major plot point.

Not in this one... this movie is what you called average Summer action flicks, action over everything else. Character developments and substances took a back side while waves and waves of action filled the whole screen.

If you had watched Asian movies, the setup of this movie had a uncanny familiarity to a recent Indonesian movie "The Raid: Redemption" both talked about law enforcers trying to fight their way through a crime lord controlled building. While Dredd had much better budget and effects, The Raid won hands down in excitement and plot lines.

In Dredd, Karl Urban was always in his helmet, making it a difficult character to emote and develop. Overall Dredd fulfilled the action film very well, just there never was a time you feared for the character. It was almost like Dredd is walking from one action stage to another. The effects were well done especially scenes involved slo-mo actions, it was rather bloody as well so not suitable for the faint hearted. There were parts that I wished the director do a different approach but nonetheless Dredd was an enjoyable roller coaster, the thrills and fills were all delivered proficiently.

Have you watched Dredd 3D and how you find it? Feel free to share your review in the comment section.

Cheers!

The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey's latest Trailer

Sorry about the 2 days late but late is better than never, right? ;-)

As promised in my earlier post : The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey : 12 New High Resolution Photos, here come the latest trailer of the highly anticipated The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey

My personal view after watching this latest trailer is, sadly, doesn't really WOW me that much. Maybe it is because Peter Jackson has set a standard so high in The Lord Of The Rings that he himself might not be able to beat it, but I hope I am wrong. Let's find out the answer in December 2012.

Meanwhile, hope you enjoy the trailer:

Tai-Chi Zero [太极 0] With 27 Awesome Movie Posters/Stills (Oct 2012)

Tai-Chi Zero, 太极0
Finally, after a long wait, here come the rare Chinese 3D movie from Hong Kong/China,Tai-Chi Zero (太极 0). Directed by Stephen Fung (冯德伦) with a sterling casts from Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. To name just a few, Tony Leung Ka Fai (梁家辉), Shu Qi (舒淇), Angelababy (杨颖), Deniel Wu (吴彦祖), Eddie Peng (彭于晏) and many others..

From the trailer, the special effect  and fighting sequence looks solid but it seems to be a bit too light-hearted for a martial art movie. Hopefully the actual movie is much more serious than what have been shown in the trailer. By the way, this is only the first instalment of a trilogy, maybe they will call it Tai -Chi 1 and Tai-Chi 2 for the sequels? On second thought, maybe not, hope they come out with the more creative names! ;-)
